Babymouse decides to prepare for dodge ball by practicing with her best friend, Wilson. Babynouse becomes prepared to play the game in gym class. She wins the game and defeats her worst enemy!

Personal Rating-3

I am not a big fan of graphic books so my opinion of this book will not really be a valid source to use to judge this book. I thought the plot of this comic strip was boring. The story tended to jump around a lot and you had to use a lot of context clues to figure out what was actually happening in the book.

Several different engines pass the engine while she is broke down but none of them offer to help her and the toys make it to the mountain. However, a little blue engine comes along and asks if they need help. The engine tells the little blue engine that she needs help getting up the mountain. The little blue engine says “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can”. The little blue engine helps out and they are able to reach their destination.

Personal Rating-5

This book is great because it demonstrates determination. It also demonstrates being a good friend and helping someone out when they are in need. Reading this book online was a neat experience because I have never done that before. It was different clicking on a button to turn the page instead of being able to just flip the page myself! This is a great source for children to use to find books. The database has a lot of titles to chose from.

In Daddy's Arms I Am Tall

In Daddy’s Arms I Am Tall
Illustrated by Javaka Steptoe
32 Pages

This is a collection of poems about individuals and their fathers. The poems discuss close relationships that these individuals have with their fathers. A few of the poems talk about how fathers are safe and secure. Other poems tell how fathers are idles or heroes.

Personal Rating-5

I think this might be my new favorite book. My dad means the world to me and I could relate to a lot of the poems in this book. Each poem is unique and describes why a dad is important to the person writing the poem. Fathers are a significant part of a person’s development and I think It’s neat that a book of poems has been put together to celebrate their significance.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
by J.K. Rowling
352 Pages

This book is about Harry’s second year at Hogwarts. Classes are getting harder and Harry things that he can understand what Snakes are saying. Harry keeps thinking that he hears something in the pipes at Hogwarts but is having a hard time figuring out what it is. Meanwhile, Harry finds a diary that was written by someone named Tom Riddle. Harry decides to get rid of the journal and Ginny Weasley snatches it up. Later in the book the Hogwarts School is shocked when they discover one day that there is a secret Chamber at the school and that it has once again been opened. Harry, Ron, and Hermione set out to solve this mystery.

Personal Rating-5

As I said in my review of the Sorcerer’s Stone, I love Harry Potter. In this book, J.K. Rowling meets the expectation of a second successful book. This book is just as clever as the first and is just as exciting to read as the first. However, I can understand why this book has been banned from certain libraries. The end of the book is very dark. The book talks about Harry stabbing the diary which symbolizes killing Tom Riddle. Blood gushes out of the book which makes the scene of the death very vivid and maybe even disturbing to young readers. I can understand why some people do not want young readers reading this book. Even thought I enjoyed this book, it is a little too violent for young readers to experience.

Susan B. Anthony

Susan B. Anthony
by Stephanie Sammartion McPherson
48 Pages

Susan B. Anthony realized early in life that men always seemed to make more money than women. She thought this was wrong. Susan also thought that slavery was wrong and that something needed to be done about that. Susan became good friends with Elizabeth Stanton and they decided to work together to fight for Civil Rights for all. After the war ended, the two worked to gain the right to vote for women. They discovered that the 14th Amendment was going to be altered so they thought this was the perfect opportunity for women to gain the right to vote. This did not happen. Then the 15th Amendment was formed and it gave males of all races the right to vote, but it did nothing to give women the right to vote. This caused Susan B. Anthony to become angry and she decided to fight harder for equal rights for women. Susan voted in an election once and was then arrested because women did not have the right to vote.

Personal Rating-5

This book too contains a lot of information about Susan B. Anthony even though the book is not that long. The book author does an excellent job proving the point that Susan B. Anthony did not win the right to vote for woman. She did however start the fight for woman to gain the right to vote. This is another book that would be good for readers that struggle with reading to read. The print is big so they would be able to read this and learn a lot about Susan B. Anthony at the same time. This will help the reader feel successful and be encouraged to read!

Eleanor Roosevelt

Eleanor Roosevelt
by Kem Knapp Sawyer
128 Pages

This is a biography about Eleanor Roosevelt. Her early childhood is discussed as well as her teenage years. The author discusses how her family influenced her to be the woman she became. Eleanor was very close to her father but her mother made her very uncomfortable. Eleanor married Franklin D. Roosevelt and then she became the First Lady after he was elected President. Eleanor was very involved with politics and making America a better place. She worked hard to make life better for all Americans. Her family did not think very highly of her while she was a child. I bet if they could have seen the woman she became they would have regretted ever saying anything negative about her.

Personal Rating-5

This biography was a very quick read and it contained an immense about of information about Eleanor Roosevelt’s life. Her early childhood is discussed, including details about her relationship with her father. The author tells how Eleanor liked being involved with the press and how she wanted to make low socioeconomic status disappear. She wanted everyone to have healthy living conditions. I like how the author wrote about Eleanor in a positive manner because she really is a hero. Many people loved and respected her and the author did her justice by writing this book. This book would be good for students to read because they would be gaining a lot of knowledge about Eleanor and the success she achieved. Also, the print is fairly big so they would feel like they are reading a difficult book successfully.

Crinkleroot's Guide to Knowing Butterflies & Moths

Crinkleroot’s Guide to Knowing Butterflies & Moths
by Jim Arnosky
32 Pages

Crinkleroot was born in the woods and raised by bees and he knows all about the creatures that live in the woods near him. He tells all about the different types of butterflies in this book. He explains how some butterflies are big and some are small. He tells that some have big bold patterns while others are a solid color. He also explains why people sometimes confuse butterflies with moths. Finally, Crinkleroot talks about how butterflies get nectar from flowers.

Personal Rating-5

This book has really great pictures in it which enhance the story. They show the patterns on the different butterflies very well. This book is really great to use to learn about butterflies. I knew that butterflies and moths were similar, but I did not know that they were THAT similar. Also, I did not know that the Hummingbird was part of the Moth family. I recommend this book!
